01In short
- astro-news uses no cookies: none of its own, and no advertising or analytics cookies.
- Your preferences live in your browser’s local storage and are never sent to any server.
- The comments and pictures from other sites load from their own services; you can turn them off in Privacy Preferences.
02What we keep on your device
These entries are stored only in your browser, under this site’s address:
- astro-news:v1 · your profile, reading history, streak, badges, saved stories, likes, reposts and hidden items
- astro-news:theme, :font, :calm, :red · theme, text size, still background and night vision
- astro-news:sort · how you sort stories
- astro-news:privacy · your privacy preferences
They make the site work and remember your choices; they do not identify you and are shared with no one.
03Offline cache
Where your browser supports it, a service worker caches the site’s own files so you can keep reading offline. The cache holds only this site’s files.
04Third parties
- Comments and the guestbook load through giscus and GitHub. If you sign in with GitHub, giscus keeps its session on its own domain; GitHub’s cookie policy applies.
- Story pictures, NASA’s picture of the day and the Sun images load from their sources’ servers, which can see your IP address; their own policies apply.
- Share links (X, WhatsApp, Telegram) and Google Calendar open only when you click them.
05Account session
If you sign in, your session is kept in a local storage entry starting with sb-. Signing out removes it.
06Your choices
In Privacy Preferences you can turn off outside pictures, the comments, live services and the reading history. What you turn off is blocked by the browser itself, so the page never connects to it. Delete everything stored on your device from Settings → My data.
