Teachers collaborating with NASA HEAT educators and scientists developed heliophysics lesson plans for grades 5-12. Piloted during the 2022-2023 school year, the curricula focus on the Sun as a natural system.

NASA-Supported Professional Development

Teachers of grades 5-12 joined a week-long virtual professional development program alongside educators and scientists from NASA HEAT. During this training, participants engaged with the Framework for Heliophysics Education and worked collaboratively with experts.

Solar System Curricula Piloted in Classrooms

Following the training, teachers created heliophysics-focused lesson plans which were piloted in their classrooms during the 2022-2023 academic year. Specifically designed for 5th and 6th grades, unit plans such as 'Our Sun as a Natural System' provide a 12-hour structured learning experience.

Educating Future Scientists in Heliophysics

These lesson plans aim to increase students' awareness of solar physics and space weather from an early age. The success of these classroom-tested educational materials paves the way for expanding STEM curricula across various grade levels.
