Research teams at NASA’s Glenn Research Center conduct experiments in world-class facilities, including low-speed wind tunnels and acoustic test rigs, to advance aerospace research.

Advanced Experimental Facilities at NASA Glenn

Research teams at NASA’s Glenn Research Center perform advanced experiments in world-class test facilities to further aerospace research. These specialized environments provide crucial capabilities for evaluating aerodynamics and noise characteristics of flight systems.

Wind Tunnels and Acoustic Laboratories

Experimental work at the center is conducted in high-caliber setups such as the 9- by 15-Foot Low-Speed Wind Tunnel (9x15 LSWT), the Aero-Acoustic Propulsion Laboratory (AAPL), and the Acoustical Testing Laboratory (ATL). These facilities allow precise measurement of acoustic and aerodynamic parameters.

Propulsion and Nozzle Rig Testing

Additionally, specialized testing rigs including the Small Hot Jet Acoustic Rig (SHJAR), the Nozzle Acoustic Test Rig (NATR), and the DGEN AeroPropulsion Research Turbofan (DART) are utilized to study jet noise and nozzle performance in detail.
