Total Solar Eclipse Outreach Events
The Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024, sparked immense interest across North America. During this celestial event, a public outreach program took place at the Dallas Arboretum in Dallas, Texas. The four featured hands-on activities allowed visitors and students to gain a deeper understanding of eclipse mechanics.
These specific activities were chosen for their high engagement factors and the affordability of their required materials, making them ideal for large-scale public demonstrations.
How-to Videos and Printable Tabletop Displays
The released educational package includes step-by-step how-to videos for each of the four activities. These instructional videos assist educators and event coordinators in effectively organizing and demonstrating each experiment.
Along with the videos, each activity features a printable "Tabletop Display" file. These materials can be printed out to provide clear visual signage for demonstration tables during community events.
Budget-Friendly Science Communication
The methodology used at the Dallas Arboretum demonstrates how accessible, low-cost materials can achieve high-impact science communication. By minimizing equipment costs, complex concepts become widely accessible.
These reusable video guides and printable templates provide a valuable framework for future solar eclipse and astronomy outreach events worldwide.
