Physics of the Cosmos and the Gamma Ray Seminar
Operating under NASA's Physics of the Cosmos Program Analysis Group (PhysPAG), the Gamma Ray Science Interest Group (GR SIG) is convening a virtual seminar to evaluate progress in high-energy astrophysics. Scheduled for 6 November 2026 at 12:00pm ET, the online meeting brings together the international scientific community to examine current research frameworks and emerging instrumentation developments in the field of cosmic gamma rays.
The European Landscape and GammaTPC Concept
The seminar agenda is centered on two key presentations addressing high-energy observational capabilities. David Berge will deliver an overview titled 'Situation in Europe', detailing current European gamma-ray efforts, infrastructure, and future directions. Following this, Tom Shutt will present on 'GammaTPC', exploring the time-projection chamber design applied to gamma-ray detection and discussing its technical merits for upcoming high-energy astrophysical measurements.
Significance for Future High-Energy Observations
Gamma-ray observations are crucial for uncovering the physics governing the most violent and energetic events in the universe. By bringing together institutional updates from Europe and novel detection concepts like GammaTPC, this seminar helps align community priorities for future space missions and ground-based facilities. The session offers astronomers a focused platform to examine detector advances and reinforce international coordination across the high-energy physics community.
