NASA Science Mission Directorate and ROSES-27
NASA's Science Mission Directorate (SMD) has outlined preparations for its primary omnibus research solicitation, Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences 2027 (ROSES-27), with an official release planned no later than January 2027. This broad funding mechanism serves as the backbone for peer-reviewed scientific investigations carried out across academic institutions, research facilities, and government laboratories collaborating with NASA.
Scope Across Fifty Program Elements
ROSES-27 is slated to solicit proposals across approximately 50 distinct program elements, addressing an expansive spectrum of scientific inquiry. Key domains include astrophysics, biological and physical sciences, Earth science, heliophysics, lunar science, planetary science, and cross-disciplinary studies. Each program element targets critical scientific inquiries, ranging from analyzing observational datasets to modeling planetary processes and celestial physics.
Strategic Vision for Space Leadership
Aligined with national space policies, ROSES-27 is designed to sustain leadership in scientific research and space exploration. By fostering innovative investigations across diverse astrophysical and planetary frontiers, the solicitation ensures that NASA's current flight missions maximize their scientific return while laying the theoretical groundwork for upcoming orbital and deep-space missions.
