A Deep Space Illusion in Cygnus
Astrophotographer Behyar Bakhshandeh from Carlsbad, California, captured the emission nebula IC 1318 in the constellation Cygnus. Also known as the Gamma Cygni Nebula, this deep-space object glows roughly 5,300 light-years away from Earth.
24 Hours of Exposure in Hubble Palette
The imager dedicated 24 hours of exposure time using the narrow-band Hubble palette (Hα/OIII/SII) combined with standard RGB channels for true star colors. This approach highlights the complex gas structures within the glowing cosmic cloud.
Visual Alignment and Perspective
The bright supergiant star Sadr appears prominently at the center of the nebula in the photograph. However, this is a line-of-sight illusion, as Sadr is located significantly closer to Earth than the background nebula it seems to surround.
